A disturbing development has emerged in Guyana following the death of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran, whose father has reportedly confessed to throwing him into a canal after allegedly being told that the child was not biologically his.<\/p>\n
The child’s decomposing body was discovered early Tuesday, 20 October 2026, in a canal near the sea dam at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, bringing a tragic end to a search that began after Orlando was reported missing on 14 October.<\/p>\n
According to reports citing police sources, 45-year-old Bharrat Jaikarran allegedly told investigators that he had visited a Hindu religious priest, known as a pujari, who reportedly questioned whether Orlando was his biological son.<\/p>\n
The father reportedly claimed that he subsequently travelled by motorcycle to the backlands near the sea dam, left the motorcycle there, and returned home to collect Orlando.<\/p>\n
He allegedly took the six-year-old to the water and threw him in, despite knowing that the child could not swim.<\/p>\n
Investigators were reportedly told that the father was familiar with surveillance cameras in the neighbourhood and believed his movements would not attract suspicion because Orlando frequently accompanied him on early-morning fishing trips.<\/p>\n
The investigation also uncovered reported tensions surrounding custody and living arrangements for the children.<\/p>\n
Jaikarran allegedly told police that he had been frustrated because three children were living with him while another was staying with their mother. He reportedly wanted his former wife to take responsibility for two of the children, but claimed she had rejected the proposed arrangement.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, police confirmed that surveillance footage and information obtained during the investigation helped lead officers to the location of Orlando’s body.<\/p>\n
The child’s father, who initially reported him missing, remains the prime suspect.<\/p>\n
The alleged conversation with the pujari has not been independently verified, and there is no established evidence confirming the claim about Orlando’s biological parentage.<\/p>\n
