The study, based on the opinions of industry experts who work directly with tourists, found that South Iceland\u2014home to the Golden Circle and South Coast\u2014offers the most concentrated and rewarding experiences for newcomers.<\/p>\n
The Golden Circle is renowned for its three iconic attractions: Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where tectonic plates meet; the Geysir Geothermal Area, where the Strokkur Geyser erupts every few minutes; and Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland\u2019s most powerful cascades. The route is accessible as a day trip from Reykjavik or as part of a broader Ring Road adventure, with options ranging from self-drive tours to guided sightseeing, snorkelling, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and hot spring bathing.<\/p>\n
The survey also revealed that parents travelling with children prefer the Golden Circle and South Coast due to its manageable driving distances and compact itineraries. For travellers with more time, the full Ring Road offers a deeper dive into Iceland\u2019s remote regions, but the Golden Circle remains the top recommendation for efficiency and impact. The route\u2019s popularity is further underscored by its consistent ranking in visitor reviews, with Reykjavik-based food and drink tours\u2014another top-rated experience\u2014often serving as a gateway to the Golden Circle.<\/p>\n
