Albania\u2019s education system is set to receive a major EU-funded boost as UNICEF and the Centre for Competitive Skills (CCS) launch the \u2018Building Skills, Shaping Futures \u2013 On the Path to EU Integration\u2019 project. The 18-month initiative, officially presented during a recent Forum on Life Skills and Career Guidance, aims to strengthen young Albanians\u2019 employability and prepare them for European integration by embedding essential life skills into the national curriculum.<\/p>\n
The project, financed by the European Union and implemented in partnership with Albania\u2019s Ministry of Education, will integrate life skills\u2014such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity\u2014into upper-secondary education across 30 pilot schools, prioritising smaller cities and rural areas. Around 12,000\u201315,000 students will directly benefit, with 540 teachers and headteachers receiving specialised training to deliver the programme. A nationwide network of life skills coordinators will also be established to ensure long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n
A key focus is career guidance, with the project developing a comprehensive model aligned with European standards. This will help students make informed career choices that match both their aspirations and labour market demands, bridging the gap between education and employment. The initiative is part of Albania\u2019s broader push to align its education system with EU priorities, supporting the country\u2019s ongoing European integration process.<\/p>\n
The project\u2019s launch coincides with the development of Albania\u2019s new National Education Strategy 2027\u20132031, providing a platform for dialogue between educators, policymakers, and young people. By equipping Albania\u2019s youth with future-ready skills, the initiative aims to reduce youth unemployment\u2014a persistent challenge\u2014and foster a more competitive workforce in line with EU standards.<\/p>\n
\u2018Building Skills, Shaping Futures\u2019 is a collaborative effort involving the European Union Delegation, the Central Finance and Contracting Unit, and several Albanian agencies, including the State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination and the National Agency for Employment and Skills.
