Named Baugur Bjólfs, the circular walkway is 100 metres long and clings to the flanks of Bjólfur mountain, which rises to around 650 metres above the coastal town of Seyðisfjörður.

The design draws inspiration from the silver rings that accompanied Viking chieftains to their graves, creating a unique blend of modern architecture and Norse heritage. Constructed from exposed concrete, stainless steel, and larch wood, the platform features a continuous bench and is fully accessible, with visitors able to drive directly to it if mobility is a concern. A gravel road leads from Seyðisfjörður to the main car park, followed by a 15-minute walk to the structure. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended for the approach, and visitors are advised to check road and weather conditions in advance via safetravel.is.

Seyðisfjörður, one of Iceland’s oldest settled areas, holds deep historical significance. According to legend, the fjord was ruled in the 10th century by the Viking Bjólfur, after whom the mountain is named. The town’s picturesque setting at the head of the fjord makes it a popular destination for tourists exploring Iceland’s dramatic landscapes.

The opening of Baugur Bjólfs reflects Iceland’s ongoing tourism boom, which has transformed the country from a niche destination into a major attraction, drawing around two million foreign visitors annually during peak periods. Despite its growing popularity, Iceland remains vulnerable to weather-related disruptions, which can quickly affect access to remote attractions like this one.

[1

post-5692","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
