FFOS Issues Urgent Appeal As Two Tobago Fishermen Remain Missing After Friday Morning Departure<\/p>\n
Fishermen and Friends of the Sea (FFOS) has issued an urgent SOS appealing for assistance in locating two Tobago fishermen who were reported missing after leaving shore on Friday, 9 October 2026.<\/p>\n
The missing men have been identified as Kester Alexander of Buccoo and David McLean of Lowlands.<\/p>\n
According to a statement signed by Gary Aboud, the fishermen departed on Friday morning aboard PREDATOR, a 24-foot pirogue powered by twin 40-horsepower Yamaha engines, bearing registration number TFT 2093.<\/p>\n
The men were expected to return by 5 p.m. that day but failed to arrive.<\/p>\n
FFOS is calling on inter-island ferry operators, Caribbean Airlines flight crews travelling between Trinidad and Tobago, fishermen, mariners, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and all vessels operating in the surrounding waters to remain vigilant.<\/p>\n
The organisation is urging anyone in the area to watch for the missing vessel, floating debris, distress signals or any indication of the fishermen’s whereabouts.<\/p>\n
Aboud stressed that every observation could potentially help save the men’s lives.<\/p>\n
The organisation also used the emergency appeal to raise concerns about the safety and treatment of fishermen, describing them as among the country’s most neglected workers and urging members of the maritime community to support one another.<\/p>\n
FFOS reminded fishermen to inform their families and the Coast Guard of their intended fishing grounds and expected return times before leaving shore.<\/p>\n
It also recommended carrying GPS tracking equipment, reliable communication devices, satellite phones or emergency beacons, maintaining engines and safety equipment, and travelling in groups whenever possible.<\/p>\n
“No catch is worth a life. No fisherman should be left behind,” the organisation declared.<\/p>\n
