In the latest instalment of her story, Kristina stressed that she is recounting events as she remembers and experienced them nearly two decades ago. Now 42, she said the events happened when she was around 24 and 25 years old, adding that years of reflection and therapy allowed her to speak about that period of her life. Kristina recalled marrying the man she refers to publicly as “Rastaman” during a small ceremony at Fort Bennett in Black Rock, Tobago. Only a few people were present as witnesses. According to her account, there had already been tension before the wedding over what her husband planned to wear. She said he originally wanted to marry in an unusual military-style outfit with short trousers, before eventually changing into black trousers and a white shirt after discussions with his mother. Following the ceremony, the small group travelled to Buccoo, bought Chinese takeaway and returned home. Kristina described the wedding as extremely simple. At the time, she said her husband was working as a bartender while she worked night shifts as a casino dealer. Kristina said adjusting to everyday life in Tobago was difficult because her English was still developing and she had arrived with mainly the English she learnt in school. She recalled depending heavily on a friend named Dean, who taught her how to prepare several Trinidad and Tobago dishes including stew chicken, curry and pelau. One lighter moment from the episode came when Kristina described accidentally mistaking Scotch bonnet peppers for seasoning peppers. She said she chopped several peppers with her bare hands while preparing fish and soon experienced severe burning across her hands and face. However, much of the episode focused on the difficulties she said she experienced at work and inside her marriage. Kristina claimed casino patrons sometimes became verbally abusive when she repeatedly dealt winning hands for the house. She said gamblers eventually became reluctant to play at her tables because of how frequently the casino appeared to win while she was dealing. She also described feeling increasingly isolated in her marriage. According to Kristina, her husband became jealous over her job, her clothing, interactions with other people and even the employee transportation that brought casino workers home after their shifts. She claimed the couple rarely spent meaningful time together and said he frequently went out with friends while she remained at home. Kristina recalled preparing several Russian dishes over Christmas, expecting the couple to spend time together, but said her husband instead went out with friends. The disappointment continued into January, she said, when she turned 25. Kristina claimed her husband forgot her birthday entirely. Feeling lonely and unhappy, she walked from Patience Hill towards Buccoo and sat watching the sunset while questioning whether she wanted that life to continue. She said that moment helped her decide to leave the relationship. Kristina approached a casino manager and asked whether she could stay in staff accommodation where some other employees were living. She then arranged transportation and began moving her belongings while her husband was expected to be at work. According to Kristina, he unexpectedly remained home that day. She claimed that after discovering she was leaving, he became extremely angry, threw some of her possessions outside and damaged other belongings inside the home. Kristina said friends eventually intervened and she was able to leave for staff accommodation. But she claimed her husband later discovered where she was staying and repeatedly appeared outside asking her to return home. Kristina said she eventually returned because she felt her presence in the staff accommodation was creating problems for the other residents and she did not believe the situation would stop. She then began planning another departure. Over approximately the next month, Kristina said she borrowed money from a friend to complete the cost of an airline ticket back to Germany. She deliberately selected a Tuesday evening flight because, according to her, her husband normally began work at 4 pm. Once he left for work, Kristina packed her belongings and departed Tobago. “That was my second time leaving him,” she told viewers. Kristina has made it clear that the story represents her recollection of events and her feelings at the time. Her former husband’s account of the relationship has not been presented in the episode. Her ongoing series continues to attract interest as she revisits her early experiences in Tobago, including relationships, employment, cultural adjustment and the difficult decisions she says shaped her life.
