Peter C Lewis says a failed business arrangement and mounting debt became one of the major turning points in his personal and spiritual life. Lewis told the Cory Shepherd podcast that a woman had expressed interest in buying his television station and indicated that money would be forthcoming. Believing the transaction would happen, he proceeded with plans for a cricket tournament and hired several people. According to Lewis, the proposed deal later collapsed, leaving him responsible for debts while people began calling for payment. He recalled reaching a point where he prayed for help and promised God that, if he got out of the financial difficulty, he would stop performing soca and return to church. Lewis said the debt was eventually cleared. He then felt obligated to honour the promise he had made. He described his Christian journey as a continuing process rather than an instant transformation, saying he does not consider himself perfect but has continued trying to live according to the commitment he made.
