Trinidad and Tobago entertainer and entrepreneur Jerome \u201cRome\u201d Precilla has revealed that 548 people applied for a single administrative assistant position, with artificial intelligence playing a major role in helping his team narrow down the large pool of applicants.<\/p>\n
Rome, a singer-songwriter, actor, television and radio personality, event host, producer and businessman, shared an update explaining that a candidate had ultimately been selected for the position.<\/p>\n
He thanked all 548 people who submitted applications and said the successful applicant had been chosen, adding, \u201cfingers crossed that we chose the right person.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Rome, the vacancy was advertised on social media and generated 548 unique responses through a designated email address. Faced with the challenge of reviewing hundreds of applications individually, he began exploring ways to make the screening process more manageable.<\/p>\n
Rome said several people, including human resources professionals, contacted him with suggestions about handling the unusually large response. He eventually decided to use ChatGPT as part of the initial screening process.<\/p>\n
He explained that ChatGPT was connected to the email account receiving the applications and instructed to assess applicants against the requirements contained in the job description.<\/p>\n
The AI tool was then asked to identify and rank a top 20, with notes explaining why each candidate had been selected. Rome said he also included personal referrals as an additional consideration and later provided further criteria specific to what he wanted from the successful candidate.<\/p>\n
ChatGPT was then instructed to reassess the applications and produce a revised top 20.<\/p>\n
Rome stressed that the final decision was not left entirely to artificial intelligence. After the shortlist was generated, he personally reviewed the resumes of all 20 candidates and selected 10 to advance to the first round of interviews.<\/p>\n
Those interviews were conducted by another member of his team, who subsequently narrowed the field to five candidates. Rome then personally interviewed the final five before one applicant was selected for the position.<\/p>\n
The recruitment exercise highlighted the growing use of artificial intelligence as a screening and organisational tool, while also showing the level of competition that can surround a single job opportunity in Trinidad and Tobago.<\/p>\n
Rome said the experience also exposed him to the depth of talent among the applicants. He indicated that he intends to produce another video offering advice on applying for jobs based on what he observed while reviewing the submissions.<\/p>\n
He also suggested that additional employment opportunities could be announced in the future.<\/p>\n
Rome, whose full name is Jerome Precilla, has built a career spanning several areas of Trinidad and Tobago\u2019s entertainment and business sectors. He is known as a singer and soca parang performer, television and radio personality, actor and event host, while also being involved in television production and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n
Before moving into entertainment full-time, Rome worked as a mechanical engineer at Petrotrin. His later career has included appearing on VH1\u2019s \u201cGirls Cruise,\u201d creating and producing television projects, working in radio and developing several business ventures.<\/p>\n
