Veteran coach and broadcaster Neville Bell has recalled how being initially left out of Jamaica’s starting team ultimately became one of the defining experiences of his playing career.<\/p>\n
Bell, who represented Jamaica at youth level, shared the story during an appearance on the No NDA Podcast while discussing the importance of being prepared when opportunities arrive.<\/p>\n
He said that during a tournament in Cuba, another player who occupied his position was initially selected ahead of him. Bell recalled being disappointed when the team was chosen without him.<\/p>\n
His opportunity eventually arrived when coach George Prescott called on him and challenged him to demonstrate that he should have been selected from the beginning.<\/p>\n
Bell said he responded by becoming the tournament’s MVP and earning selection to an all-star team, with his performance also receiving coverage in a Cuban newspaper.<\/p>\n
He later represented Jamaica in Trinidad and Tobago, where he said he was injured during the tournament.<\/p>\n
Bell said playing for Jamaica was among the achievements that came closest to fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming a professional footballer.<\/p>\n
