Caribbean broadcaster Alex Jordan says genuine confidence is not about always knowing the answer but being willing to get things wrong, look foolish and continue moving forward.<\/p>\n
Jordan reflected on confidence while discussing how she repeatedly entered professional roles for which she did not initially feel completely prepared.<\/p>\n
She described the quality that carried her through those moments as “gumption”, insisting that she was not actually comfortable during many of the career opportunities audiences may have assumed came naturally.<\/p>\n
Jordan recalled experiencing intense fear when she received an early international cricket commentary assignment involving Afghanistan and Ireland in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n
She later faced another intimidating assignment working on a West Indies Test match alongside renowned commentator Ian Bishop.<\/p>\n
Jordan said her confidence developed through repeatedly overcoming small barriers.<\/p>\n
She compared the process to progressively increasing weight in a gym, with each uncomfortable challenge adding to a person’s belief that they can handle the next one.<\/p>\n
She also said confidence requires accepting that other people may believe you are unqualified or foolish without allowing their judgement to define you.<\/p>\n
Jordan credited her parents, upbringing and education with providing some of her underlying self-confidence.<\/p>\n
