Mode Alive\u2019s Gary Aboud Reveals Prostate Cancer Diagnosis, Urges Men to Get Screened<\/p>\n
Prominent Trinidad and Tobago businessman and Mode Alive owner Gary Aboud has revealed that he is battling prostate cancer, using his personal experience to urge men, particularly those over 50, to take regular screening seriously.<\/p>\n
In an emotional video message, Aboud said his cancer was detected early after he underwent regular testing, something he believes has given him a better chance in his fight against the disease.<\/p>\n
Aboud said that since reaching the age of 55, his assistant had insisted that he get checked twice a year.<\/p>\n
\u201cFortunate for me, I got it early,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He appealed directly to families to encourage their fathers, husbands, brothers and other older men to get checked, noting that some men may avoid prostate screening because of concerns about physical examinations.<\/p>\n
Aboud stressed that men should speak with their doctors about available screening options, including blood testing, and repeatedly emphasized the importance of early detection.<\/p>\n
\u201cEarly detection is the best saviour for prostate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Aboud also revealed that he has been undergoing radiation treatment and recalled encountering a six-year-old boy receiving cancer treatment on the same cycle as him.<\/p>\n
The experience prompted him to make another offer: helping parents of children under 16 who are battling cancer.<\/p>\n
Aboud said he wants affected families to reach out, even if his contribution is simply providing a child with a gift or something that could bring them happiness during treatment.<\/p>\n
Despite his own diagnosis, the businessman struck an overwhelmingly positive tone, declaring that he intends to fight the disease.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am positive, forever positive and I am going to beat it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Aboud also reflected on his healthy lifestyle, saying he eats healthily and takes precautions in his everyday life, yet still developed cancer. For him, the experience reinforced the importance of screening rather than assuming a healthy lifestyle alone means someone is not at risk.<\/p>\n
He encouraged people facing difficult circumstances to focus on gratitude, love, happiness and being of service to others.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou could take plenty punches and still have a smile,\u201d Aboud said.<\/p>\n
