Trinidad and Tobago soca veteran Denise \u201cSaucy Wow\u201d Belfon has been honoured with a New York City proclamation recognising her longstanding contribution to soca music and Caribbean culture.
\nThe recognition comes ahead of Trinidad and Tobago\u2019s 64th Independence Day, which will be celebrated on August 31.
\nBelfon, widely known for her energetic performances and signature hit \u201cWork,\u201d has spent approximately three decades contributing to Trinidad and Tobago\u2019s soca landscape.
\nImages shared following the presentation show Belfon holding the proclamation during the ceremony in New York.
\nThroughout her career, Belfon has helped carry soca beyond Trinidad and Tobago, with her music and distinctive performance style becoming familiar to audiences across the Caribbean and diaspora.
\nHer profile has also received renewed international attention through collaborations and musical connections involving international artistes, including Megan Thee Stallion, Shenseea and, more recently, Drake.
