A businessman from Chaguanas has been charged with fraudulent conversion following an investigation by the Fraud Squad. The charges stem from an incident in November 2025, where the accused allegedly failed to deliver and install a glass shopfront despite receiving a down-payment of TT$5,500. The victim, who had paid for the shopfront that was supposed to be installed within six weeks, reported the matter to the Fraud Squad after unsuccessful attempts to recover the money.<\/p>\n
Following the report, a coordinated operation was launched by the Fraud Squad under the direction of senior officers. The investigation led officers to a Chaguanas address where they sought the suspect. The businessman voluntarily surrendered to the authorities at the Sangre Grande Police Station on August 26, 2026.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, he was charged with fraudulent conversion by PC Mollah. Bail was set at TT$50,000 by Justice of the Peace Carl Dattoo. The accused is scheduled to appear before a Master of the High Court on September 2, 2026.<\/p>\n
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of the Fraud Squad to tackle financial crimes and protect consumers from fraudulent activities. The unit, led by senior officers including Snr. Supt.
