Couva Family Pleads With HDC, Calls on Phillip Alexander for Help<\/p>\n
A family living at the HDC development at Watson Court, Exchange, Couva, is pleading with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to urgently intervene in what they describe as a longstanding sewerage problem affecting their home.<\/p>\n
Resident Allison Cudjoe-Pascal says she has been seeking assistance from the HDC for more than three years, making repeated visits to the corporation in an effort to have the situation addressed.<\/p>\n
According to Cudjoe-Pascal, she has sometimes visited the HDC two to three times per month regarding the problem, which she says becomes particularly troublesome whenever rain falls.<\/p>\n
The situation is of particular concern to the mother because her son has special needs and cerebral palsy. Cudjoe-Pascal explained that an area affected by the problem was previously used to conduct physiotherapy with her son. She said the conditions have made it difficult for the family to properly use that space.<\/p>\n
Cudjoe-Pascal said she has repeatedly brought the matter to the attention of officials but is still awaiting a resolution.<\/p>\n
During one of her most recent visits to the HDC, she said she spoke with an official identified as Mr Baptiste, whom she credited with attempting to assist the family. According to her, when she followed up approximately two weeks later, she was told that he was awaiting an update from senior officials before a team could be dispatched to assess the property and determine what work was required.<\/p>\n
Cudjoe-Pascal said she was informed that the issue involves sewer lines connected to adjoining properties. She explained that the homes form a duplex and said the configuration of the sewer lines has complicated attempts to resolve the matter.<\/p>\n
These claims represent the family’s account. TG News has not independently established the technical cause of the sewerage problem.<\/p>\n
After years of trying to have the matter addressed, Cudjoe-Pascal says the experience has taken an emotional toll on her and her family. She said she has contacted government officials seeking assistance and has now reached what she described as her “breaking point.”<\/p>\n
The family is also calling on Phillip Alexander for assistance.<\/p>\n
Cudjoe-Pascal pointed to Alexander’s recent efforts visiting communities and publicly highlighting problems affecting residents and said she hopes he will similarly take an interest in her family’s situation.<\/p>\n
She said the family has already attempted to contact Alexander, including sending him videos and messages via WhatsApp and trying to reach him by phone and video call. According to Cudjoe-Pascal, those attempts had not received a response at the time of her interview.<\/p>\n
The family is hoping Alexander will see their latest appeal, respond and help bring further attention to the conditions at their Watson Court home.<\/p>\n
Cudjoe-Pascal also stressed that she and her husband have consistently met their obligations associated with the property. She said the family received the home in 2015 and has never missed a payment, despite sometimes having to make financial sacrifices to ensure the payment was prioritised.<\/p>\n
She is now appealing directly to the HDC, Phillip Alexander and any relevant authorities who may be able to assist, asking that the property be assessed and the necessary steps taken to bring the longstanding problem to an end.<\/p>\n
For Cudjoe-Pascal and her family, the hope is that after more than three years of seeking assistance, their latest public appeal will finally result in someone coming to Watson Court, Exchange, Couva, and helping them find a permanent solution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
