Kamla Accuses PNM of Reviving Racial Narrative Amid Eddie Hart Police Post Dispute<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has accused the People’s National Movement (PNM) of reverting to racial politics following public criticism over the controversy surrounding the proposed mobile police post at the Eddie Hart Grounds.<\/p>\n
In a statement shared on social media, Persad-Bissessar claimed the PNM was attempting to shift attention after facing public outrage over the dispute by reviving what she described as the “them coolie corrupt” narrative.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister argued that some within the Opposition would rather prevent the installation of a mobile police post than cooperate with her Government’s efforts to strengthen public safety. She alleged that political hatred had taken precedence over measures intended to protect communities.<\/p>\n
Persad-Bissessar further claimed the public should expect an increase in racially charged messaging on social media, including derogatory remarks aimed at Indo-Trinidadians, as the political debate continues.<\/p>\n
Her comments come days after a heated exchange between the Government and the Tunapuna\/Piarco Regional Corporation over the proposed Eddie Hart police post. The Government has maintained the facility is part of its crime-fighting strategy, while the Corporation has said its concerns relate to planning and development approval requirements, not opposition to policing initiatives.<\/p>\n
