A 23-year-old police officer from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is facing charges of misbehaviour in public office following the disappearance and subsequent recovery of a service-issued firearm. The officer, who has been with the force for approximately nine months, is due to appear in court on Monday, August 3.<\/p>\n
The incident unfolded at the Mayaro Police Station on July 29, when internal checks revealed that a service firearm and ammunition were missing. An internal investigation was promptly launched, leading to the recovery of the missing items. Acting Sergeant Denoon laid the charge after a review by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Anju Bhola.<\/p>\n
The officer, residing at Seaview Lane, Mayaro, was taken into custody as the investigation progressed. The area where the firearm was found was meticulously processed by investigators, ensuring a thorough follow-up on the breach.<\/p>\n
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro has reiterated the TTPS’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within its ranks. “The TTPS maintains an uncompromising position on integrity and accountability.
