The appeal, brought by the Attorney General, the Minister of Homeland Security, the Commissioner of Police, and PC Eldon Caliste, seeks to overturn key aspects of the decision.<\/p>\n
According to court filings, the State argues that the Court of Appeal judges erred in both law and fact when they ruled in favor of the Hadeeds. The legal challenge centers on the interpretation of law enforcement powers and the legality of actions taken by police during the investigation.<\/p>\n
Among the issues raised are whether the Court of Appeal correctly defined the scope of police authority and whether damages awarded to the Hadeeds were justified. The case originated from the Hadeeds’ legal challenge against the State following police conduct during an investigation.<\/p>\n
The Court of Appeal’s previous ruling in favor of the Hadeeds prompted the State to seek further review before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. This filing marks the next major step in what has become one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most closely watched legal battles.<\/p>\n
