Motor City Ltd. has sparked widespread discussion online after announcing that it will no longer accept AI-generated artwork for printing, prompting mixed reactions from customers, designers and members of the printing industry.
\nIn a social media post shared by the company, Motor City stated that while artificial intelligence can be useful for generating ideas, it is no longer accepting AI-generated designs for print production.
\nThe company explained that it cannot recreate or replicate another person’s AI-generated artwork and encouraged customers to submit professional, print-ready files instead. Recommended formats included vector files such as Adobe Illustrator (AI), EPS and PDF, along with Photoshop files and high-resolution images.
\nMotor City also advised customers not to submit AI-generated files, screenshots or low-resolution images downloaded from websites, noting that these often do not meet the quality requirements needed for professional printing.
\nThe announcement quickly attracted hundreds of reactions and dozens of comments, with many people supporting the company’s stance.
\nSeveral designers argued that AI should be used as a creative tool rather than a final product, explaining that artwork often requires additional editing, vectorisation and file preparation before it is suitable for large-format printing.
\nOthers suggested the issue is less about artificial intelligence itself and more about the quality of files customers submit. Some commenters noted that blurry screenshots, compressed images and low-resolution exports are common challenges for print shops, regardless of whether the artwork was created with AI.
